Why should a roof be considered a system?

The effects of inadequate insulation allow for heat to escape from your house in the winter and for additional heat to penetrate your house in the summer.   The negative effects of inadequate ventilation result in trapping hot moist air in your attic.   If not vented and insulated properly ice damming, mold, rot and increased utility bills will occur.
